If you know how to swim and have an interest in the natural world, snorkeling is an ideal way of making the most of your time in the Bahamas. The underwater seascape is a fascinating realm chock full of engaging sights from beautifully colored corals to a wide array of fish species, mollusks, and crustaceans. And it’s all easily accessible with just a mask, snorkel and fins.

Of course, you’ll want to protect yourself from the tropical sun with
biodegradable sunscreen or a rashguard, or both. (The chemicals and oils in
some sunscreens pollute the water and can kill coral. Sunscreens that are
free of oxybenzone (benzophenone-3, BP-3); butylparaben; octinoxate
(ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate); and 4-methylbenzylidene camphor are easily
accessible around the island.)

You definitely want to have a waterproof camera (or phone case) available for taking photos.
